“They Persisted: Women Making a Difference Then and Now”
About a year ago, a LMFDC member shared a story with a few friends (who also happened to be fellow LMFDC members) about a retirement community in Germany that had produced a calendar of re-created famous movie scenes featuring senior residents. The group also remembered the 2003 movie “Calendar Girls” based on a true story of senior women who posed for a calendar that successfully raised money for their local hospital.
These women – Linda Armacost, Carol Perkins and Jennifer Spencer – decided that a calendar featuring famous women throughout history would be a great fundraiser…and LMFDC members would be the best models! The 2019 calendar, titled “They Persisted: Women Making a Difference Then and Now”, is a celebration of the persistence of all women who made a difference and who continue making differences in our lives. Each month is dedicated to activists, authors, feminists, artists and more!
Spencer, an award-winning photographer, volunteered to take the photographs in her home studio. Club printer Jay Levine of Pip Printing graciously agreed to produce the calendar. Special thanks to both for their support of this amazing work of art!
All calendar sale profits will benefit local Democratic Candidates. Calendars are $20 and are available for purchase at club meetings – first Wednesday of every month at the La Mesa Community Center, 4975 Memorial Drive, La Mesa, starting at 6:30 pm.
Or you can buy your calendar now by clicking the “Buy Now” button below, and pick it up at our meeting.
